Most in-demand IT skills 2026: the ranking
The bar is the share of all analysed listings naming the skill – as required, as nice to have or without either mark. The colored number on the right is the change from September 2026 to October 2026 in percentage points. Click a skill to open its page.
What changed from the month before
The largest rise: SAP S/4HANA (+1.5 percentage points). The largest drop: Azure (−1.1 percentage points). The table shows the largest rises and drops from September 2026 to October 2026. Single months fluctuate; a shift of a few tenths of a percentage point is not yet a trend. Each skill's page shows its development over all analysed months.

What is not in the ranking
Languages and soft skills are left out of the ranking, although listings often name them: German appears in 39% of the listings, English in 29%, communication skills in 17%. General activities such as project management (15%) or documentation (10%) are left out too: they say little about which technology a project needs. Which projects need no German shows the analysis English-speaking IT contracts in Germany.
How to use the data for your profile
- Check which of these skills are in your profile – and whether you name them the way listings do.
- Open the page of your main skill: it shows which skills clients ask for together with it. Those combinations often set your profile apart more than the single skill.
- Rising skills are worth a second look – but a single month is not yet a trend.
Projectmatch automatically matches new projects against your profile and shows for each project which of the required skills your profile covers. Browse current projects or try it now.

Method
An AI model reads the requested skills from each project description, and whether they are required or nice to have; spelling variants such as "React 18" and "ReactJS" are merged into one skill, and each listing counts a skill once. The ranking holds technologies and the methods CI/CD, DevOps, Scrum, SAFe, Kanban, ITIL, Test Automation, Infrastructure as Code and Requirements Engineering: at most 60 skills, the most frequent first, each named in at least 1.5% of the listings. A skill that already has a page keeps it while it is among the 60 most frequent and named in at least 1% of the listings. Each listing counts in the month it was first published; if it names a skill several times, its strongest mark counts. On the skill pages, a companion skill counts as typical when projects with the skill name it at least 3 times as often as projects overall; an AI model assigns each project its role from the title and the skills, see Most in-demand developer roles. The figures are updated monthly.
